How Meditation Has Changed My Life
Meditation can have some immediate effects of peace and ease after just a single session. If you commit to consistency, you will feel some real shifts and magic happen over time. My favorite outcome has been its power to quiet down life’s noise enough to help me become a better listener. Specifically, I have become better at tuning into my own heart and desires while also feeling more in tune to the signals of the universe around me. Because of this, I find myself slowing down and taking my time with decisions, absorbing more of the beauty in my world, and being more sensitive to the tugs of my intuition while I build my business.
My time in meditation and its subsequent effect of allowing me to be a better listener to my own desires has manifested in so many ways but here are some of the most recent examples:
Connecting to a Talented Therapist
While visiting Santa Fe, I saw signs for healers and therapists while driving around and something in me told me to research local resources. I finally found myself on the page of a local somatic and osteopathic manual therapist. My time with this healer was more transformational than any other work I had experienced previously. I was able to fit in two sessions during my month in the city and I am so glad I followed that voice in my head that told me someone special was waiting to work with me. I am still seeing this therapist for virtual sessions.
Finding the Right Inspiration at Exactly the Right Time
Before heading out for a walk with my dog, I decided to try a new podcast but didn’t know where to start. In what was random for me, I searched the word “creativity” and landed on an interview with Rick Rubin. I had very little knowledge of him and his advice that day was exactly the last push I needed to officially take steps to launch this business. The two things that really stuck with me:
No one is going to give you permission to get started on your dreams. Far too many of us wait for external signs and validation when it will only ever work when it comes from us.
Celebrities or icons or whoever we may look up to are NOT special - there are the doers and the non doers. So if you want to make something then just DO it. (he is a world-renowned music producer and he has actually worked with the biggest and brightest musical talents in the world)
Quieting Down My Digital World
On some social platforms I was following over 1K accounts. I finally realized that the scrolling didn’t inspire or motivate me to get started on my own dreams - I was busy checking in on everyone else. The digital space I had curated over the years felt loud and cluttered with quick-get-successful accounts, filters on filters, and I just couldn’t understand its purpose any more.
I cleaned up my account to really focus on my friends, inner circle, and a handful of aspirational creators. My gut told me I was falling into the toxic trap of consumption and the compare game. I needed to clear my digital clutter to allow myself to truly use these platforms to stay up to date with friends and allow myself to feel inspired by authentic creators.
I promise you, the nudges and gut feelings are there right now just waiting to be uncovered. Once we get better at listening, our whole world changes in profound ways.
